A Few Notes On Resolution:
(Image File Size)

The end use of a digital photo dictates which file size is best for you. Digital Photos are comprised of a series of dots (pixels). A computer monitor or TV displays photos at 72 dots per inch (dpi). HDTV displays at 94 dpi. An ink jet printer needs at least 240 dpi and a commercial photo lab like Costco needs 300-310 dpi. The numbers I put in parenthesis show how many pixels (dots) an image file contains. Thus a low resolution file (600x400) will display at 8"x5" on a computer monitor but will only print to 2"x1.33".

High Resolution (5184x3456 pixels) is suitable for printing up to 12"x18" (or larger) but may not display properly on older DVD players due to the large file size. Should display properly on any computer but might load slowly due to the large file size.

Medium Resolution (2592x1728) is suitable for viewing on TV or Computer monitors and prints up to 5"x7". The smaller size of the image file allows the photos to load faster when played in a DVD player.

Low Resolution (600x400) is only suitable for display on computer screens, digital picture frames and phones. Will only print to 2"x1.3". Great for your Facebook page.

My recommendation would be to use the High resolution files for a photo disc unless there are a lot of photos on the disc. This gives you the most options for your end use. You can always reduce the size of the files but you can never increase them.
